Which Corps did the New Zealand Trench Mortars belong to. Was it Infantry or Artillery?
The short answer is that both the New Zealand infantry and artillery had trench mortars on the Western Front during WWI.
The infantry had 3.8in Stokes mortars firing a 10lb 11oz bomb.
The NZ Artillery had four batteries of trench mortars. X,Y and Z Btys were all equipped with four of the medium 6in mortars, firing a 60lb bomb (range 1420yds), and a heavy mortar battery, V Bty, equipped with the 9.45in mortar firing the massive 152lb bomb out to a maximum range of 1140yds.
