Great to see in the latest RNZA Newsletter, the photo taken at the opening of the mess in Nui Dat.
Many of course now deceased;
Col Bob Smith who was Force Comd, Maj Red Potts who was BK, WO2 Ivan Trueman who was BQMS , Ssgt Steve Day who was ERE helped Ivan in the Q store
Sgt John Brand who was the Pay Sgt at Force in SAIGON Sgts Colin Ryan and Bob Wirihana who were Gun Sgts on C & D
WO1Darcy Pollard who was BSM, Sgt John Lynch who was Cook Sgt, Sgt Dave Roberts who was Sigs Sgt and Sgt Matt Hotere who was E Gun Sgt.
Sgt Owen "Shorty" Geldard was there with a team of Engrs putting up messes etc and had just done the Sgts Mess ( He lives here in AUSTRALIA).
Up until then we had a combined mess in an IPP tent. The US Sgt was there because they had a relay Stn to 2FFV in LONG BINH from 1 ATF.
2Lt Gordon Stevenson I think was the LO with Col Bob Smith for his visit.
Others: Ssgt Don Potter was Bty Clk Sgt Terry Hughes was A Gun Sgt Trevor Pilcher was B Gun Sgt Danny McCort I think was F Gun though the memory is slipping and I would have thought Fred Biggwither was still there. Sgt Bill Giles was BCs Svy Sgt, I was CP Svy Sgt, WO2 Steve Parker was BG now lives in the UK or did when I visited him in 2003. Maj Harry Honnor of course was BC.
Sgt Pipi Boyd RNZSigs was Tpt Sgt, Sgt Bruce McKenzie was EME Sgt though he was a Veh Mech not a Gun Fitter which was the Sgts slot. He lives here in AUSTRALIA.
45 years ago, it seems like yesterday. The present Col Comdt was the GPO
