Tributes to Scratch Millyn

Graeme Black
I collected Denis from the Rarotoga flight today and we went to see Scratch. He looked very much at peace, the undertaker has done a wonderful job on him.
Lying at attention in a suit and gunner tie with some photos of a young Lbdr Millynn obviously not long out of RF Cadets.
He was a 'Bird Gunner' like myself and a bloody great instructor. I had a feeling of great pride having been a mate for nearly 60 years, and loss as the Millynn family and Black family were very close. His two boys were there, my what fine looking guys, not the little mischiefs I remember from years ago, Debra was at work but I will see her tomorrow as I am speaking at the funeral.

Kerry Lee
Scratch and Ted Willbond were my first instructors as a "bird gunner". Ted was the hut NCO in CMT and Scratch was one of those who were tasked with turning our gaggle into gunners. Later at 62 Bty 6LAA, the Adj Lt M Stanley and one of our instructors Lbdr Millyn, convinced me that I should seek a commission . and that was the start of a long friendship. And he was there two years later to convert me to Field guns when the Ack Ack was abolished.
