May 2011 marks forty years since 161 Battery, 16 Field Regiment RNZA returned to New Zealand from Vietnam. Many of our comrades have been lost, both in Vietnam and back home, but those of us who are left now have the opportunity to revisit the places that we knew so well - Bien Hoa, Nui Dat and Vung Tau in particular.
The Royal New Zealand Artillery Association has organised a ten day tour of the Saigon, Vung Tau and Nui Dat regions. The trip includes the ANZAC Day service at the Long Tan memorial. There we will remember those who fell in Viet Nam, and those whose lives were cut short by the after-effects of their service. If you have not been back to Vietnam on an official battleground visit, your air travel cost will be met from funds held by Veterans' Affairs for this purpose. This applies only to travel from New Zealand. If you have already visited Vietnam with VANZ assistance, you may qualify for a smaller part-subsidy.
The package price includes your accommodation, breakfasts, ground transport and a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Partners or kin may accompany you.
The cut-off date is 20 December, when a non-refundable deposit of $250 per person is required. The balance is due mid-February.
